What to do in Giethoorn? Also known as the Venice of the Netherlands.

Never sailed by yourself? In this picturesque village of Giethoorn, you can take a swim in the water! We’ll take you from Amsterdam to Giethoorn and let you experience whatever you wish. Want a private boat tour or sail with a skipper? Everything is possible.

In the morning, the journey to Giethoorn begins. We board the bus for a 2-hour tour through the Dutch countryside. In spring, you’ll see the vast tulip fields, and the Dutch cows grazing outside in summer. There’s plenty to see in the flat Dutch landscape.

Once we arrive in Giethoorn, we will guide you to your boat. Whether you're sailing yourself or with a skipper, anything is possible in Giethoorn. Imagine it's raining and you still want to sail. You can join us on a covered boat. Sometimes it’s even quieter and perfect for a lovely boat tour.

On March 29th, the first tours to Giethoorn will start from Amsterdam. As we welcome the spring with our tulip tours, we also want to begin our Giethoorn tours, because we believe every tourist should experience this. A must-see!

What to do in Giethoorn? 3 Tips

Here are 3 tips for things you can visit during your tour day:

  1. The village is best seen from the water. Once you’re there, you’ll understand the joy of sailing through Giethoorn. You can also sail past the island, through the lake, and even part of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. You can choose all of this on the Giethoorn Village app.
  2. Take a walk through Giethoorn. You can choose a short 4 km route or a longer 14 or even 27 km route. The most beautiful route goes along the village, where you’ll often have to cross the water via one of the wooden bridges and watch the boats pass beneath you. You’ll also pass many nice eateries and shops.
  3. Visit Henri Willig’s cheese shop. If you don’t have much time to travel around the Netherlands because you’re only staying for the weekend, you can still visit Henri Willig’s cheese shop in Giethoorn. Here, you can buy any cheese you like, from young to old, and even taste the cheeses in the store.
With the tour, you avoid the crowds in Giethoorn.

When you book the tour, you won’t have to deal with the enormous crowds that sometimes occur in the summer. We depart on time every day towards Giethoorn, so we can get to the boats earlier. With the Giethoorn Village app, you can also choose the best routes and be the first on the canals of Giethoorn. Take your best photos or videos. Here are a few tips for avoiding the crowds:

  1. Plan your trip early. Always choose to go in the morning, both for better photos and to avoid most of the crowds during the summer months.
  2. With Tulip Tours Holland, you’ll be the first on the water. Our rental company is located close to the most beautiful canal belt of Giethoorn, so you’ll arrive exactly where you want to be.
  3. Plan your trip during the week, as it’s quieter than on weekends. Saturday is the busiest day, and during Easter and good weather, most boats will be fully booked.
How to get to Giethoorn? Where can I park?

Of course, you can book our tour, but it’s also possible to drive to Giethoorn yourself. You can arrive even earlier in the village. There are several parking spots available. When you arrive in the center, you’ll see many signs directing you to parking lots. The main address is:

Address: Wethouder Harm Molweg. This is free parking, right in the center. You can also park for free at the P1 parking lot – at Ds. J.J. Ketstraat. Afterward, it’s just a 150-meter walk to the first boat rental companies. Make sure to arrive early to park for free.

By public transport

This is no longer necessary, as we’ve organized a tour for you. We now offer a round-trip service where you can choose whether you want to sail with a skipper or by yourself. Want lunch included or a nice walk? Everything is possible. You’ll save time by not having to take public transport, and it’s also cheaper! Book our Giethoorn tour with guided boat tour or book a transportation from Amsterdam to Giethoorn.
