Spring in the Netherlands: A Colorful Spectacle
Our tulip season starts on March 28, 2025. Wondering when to visit? Social media often shows tulip photos early in the year, but don’t be fooled. Blooms depend on the weather and season.
When Do Tulips Bloom in the Netherlands?
This is the most common question we get. Tulips bloom from early April to early May, depending on the weather and the type of tulip. For the best chance, visit between April 20 and 30, when most fields are at their peak.
Our tours begin on March 28 with early-blooming hyacinths. Later in the season, we focus on tulip fields as they start to bloom.
The Most Important Tulip Areas
- Lisse and the Bollenstreek The Bollenstreek is the heart of tulip cultivation, including towns like Lisse, Hillegom, Noordwijkerhout, Sassenheim, and Voorhout. This sandy region is famous for its fields and the Keukenhof.
- Kop van Noord-Holland This area, with villages like Breezand, Anna Paulowna, Julianadorp, Callantsoog, and Zijpe, is known for its vast fields and peaceful cycling routes.
- West Friesland Between Hoorn, Enkhuizen, Twisk, Abbekerk, and Wervershoof, West Friesland combines historical charm with stunning tulip landscapes.
- Zeeuws-Vlaanderen Villages like Hulst, Oostburg, Sluis, Aardenburg, and Terneuzen offer tulip fields in a serene Zeeland setting, ideal for peaceful exploration.
- Noordoostpolder and Flevopolder Villages like Emmeloord, Creil, Espel, Dronten, and Swifterbant feature the Netherlands' largest tulip fields.
You’ll also find smaller tulip fields in Drenthe, Overijssel, and even across the German border.
Our Tour: A Day of History and Beauty
Our tour explores West Friesland, a picturesque area near Amsterdam. Visit charming villages like Twisk and Abbekerk, admire historic farmhouses, and explore the Beemster, a 17th-century reclaimed polder. We also visit a working windmill surrounded by tulip fields.
Four Seasons in One Day
In April, Dutch weather can be unpredictable. Rain in the morning and sunshine in the afternoon are not uncommon, making each visit unique. Even rainy days can be unforgettable with the right group and mindset.
Luck and Flexibility
Planning around the weather is tricky in the Netherlands, so a bit of luck helps. We stay flexible with our itineraries, ensuring we make the most of every moment. If it rains, we might start with lunch and head to the fields later. Whatever the weather, every tour is a special experience.
