Every season here has something worth planning around, so the honest answer to "when should I go?" depends on what you're after.
Spring (March–May) is when the country puts on its best show - tulip fields bloom across the countryside and Keukenhof opens for its short, unmissable season. It's also the busiest planning window, so book ahead if this is your target.
Summer (June–August) brings the longest days, canal-side terraces, and a full calendar of festivals — ideal if you want the city at its liveliest.
Autumn (September–November) quietens things down: fewer crowds, golden parks, and noticeably better hotel prices.
Winter (December–February) trades flowers for Christmas markets, festive canal lights, and — on a cold enough week — ice skating.
If you're weighing it up and have no fixed dates, mid-April to early June tends to hit the sweet spot: mild weather, blooming countryside, and days long enough to fit a lot in. Can't make spring work? September is the strong runner-up.
